Lipsense Review: Does It Really Last And Look Great?

Lately, I’ve been hearing and seeing a lot about this lip color called Lipsense. It’s been all over Instagram feeds and on Pinterest. So I was thrilled when I got a chance to try out the product for free in return for a review. Thanks to Rachel who’s an Independent Distributor from Lipsense (#:287298) for sending the product to me. Get in touch with her on social media via Instagram: @oohlalalipswithrachel and Facebook: @oohlalalipswithrach if you’d like a 20-50% discount on all SeneGence products or are interested in becoming a distributor. Lipsense Review – My Honest Opinion

Lipsense Review – The Packaging

This product comes beautifully packaged in pretty lip containers. It consists of three elements: the lip color, the moisturizing gloss, and Ooops! Remover. I also received an instruction note to carefully follow to maximize the effect of the product. In addition there was a pamphlet of all the other LipSense products, which I definitely wasn’t aware of so that was great. The package came with a personal note from the representative, which was a nice added touch.

Lipsense Review – The Directions

Since Lipsense lip color is supposed to be a long lasting product there are specific set of instructions on how to apply it. Make sure you follow the instructions correctly to ensure the full effect. These instructions may seem like a bit of work but you need to follow them if you really want to make sure the product works as designed. They are as follows:

  1. Clean your lips with warm water and pat dry with a washcloth.
  2. Shake your Lipsense lip color well before applying.
  3. Wipe off any excess product before use.
  4. With lips parted, place the applicator on the outside corner of the lower lip and apply corner to corner in one sweep. Let dry for 5 seconds and repeat on the inside of the lower lip.
  5. IMPORTANT: Don’t move the applicator back and forth or touch your lips together until the end of the whole application and after the gloss is applied.
  6. Now for the top lip, start at the middle of the lip (did you know this area is called the cupid’s bow? I didn’t) and move down to the corner of your lip, then do the other side.
  7. Once the first layer has been applied, let it dry for 5 seconds.
  8. IMPORTANT: Don’t touch your lips together.
  9. Repeat steps 3-7 two more times. So you should have applied the lip color a total of three times.
  10. Once the color is very dry you can apply the Gloss and now you can rub your lips together.

Lipsense Review – The Pros and Cons

The Pros

Array of Colors

What I really like about this product is the vast array of colors to choose from. There are so many colors in different shade palettes it’s pretty amazing. This might make deciding on a color a bit hard. It took me a little while to do some research on the colors available to pick the one I thought would suit me. The color I tried ‘Aussie Rose’ is very beautiful and not too dramatic. It’s definitely perfect for that everyday look. I would really like to try some of the other colors as well. Perhaps this time I would try something bolder so I can wear it on a night out.

Long Lasting and Smudge Proof

I also like the fact that the lip color is supposed to last anywhere between 4-18 hours. There’s nothing more annoying than a lipstick that you have to keep re-applying over and over again the whole day. I found that this color did live up to the long lasting claim. It pretty much lasted the entire six hours I had it on my lips. I only had to apply the gloss a few times a day to keep the moisture in. It’s also waterproof so it didn’t rub off after eating and sharing a smooch with my partner.

Three Products

Happily enough, this lip color comes with some extra items you normally would need to buy separately. The gloss comes in handy and keeps your lips moist and the Ooops remover ensures that you have a flawless lipstick application. You can use it to remove any mistakes on the spot.

Quality Ingredients

What I also like about Lipsense products is that they’re made from quality ingredients. They’re US FDA compliant and they’re: gluten free, non-GMO, not tested on animals, formulated without drying waxes and lead and made in the U.S. That’s a bonus for me, as I always look for products that are as natural as possible. Over the years I have become very sensitive to a lot of commercial products so I want to treat my skin with great care. Lipsense lip color also uses modern technology that acts as a mechanical shield to keep your lips protected from the sun. That’s a great feature as you don’t need to worry about looking for another sun protecting product for your lips.

The Cons

The process of applying this lip color is a bit time consuming. You need to follow the instructions correctly to have the full effect of the product. But I suppose with time it will become more of a second nature type of process. So perhaps it might only be cumbersome at the beginning.

I found that my lips became a bit dry throughout the day and I had to apply the gloss a few times. Not sure if I put too much or too little of the product. I definitely tried to follow the instructions as closely as I could. So you might need to carry two items with you at all times: the lip color and the gloss.

Right after the application I found my lips were a bit sticky which is something I usually try to avoid. If you’re like me and you don’t enjoy stickiness you might be a bit annoyed with the product at first. I found that it did get better as the day went on and as I applied the gloss. So perhaps this is just something that you might get used to or something that can be avoided with more practice of the product application.

Lipsense Review – Final Thoughts

Overall I think the product does live up to the hype. It did last all day with the application of the gloss throughout the day. I would definitely recommend this product especially for those all day events when you can’t always get to re-apply your lipstick in front of a mirror. You can easily just bring the gloss with you and re-apply it throughout the day for added moisture. I wasn’t crazy about the initial stickiness of the product as that’s one of my pet peeves when it comes to lipsticks. So that’s something you might need to get used to or perhaps perfect your lip color application so you don’t apply too much product in the corners of your lips.

Great review! I have a few friends who have jumped on the Lipsense bandwagon and are now selling it. I’ve been curious to try it out – especially given the long-lasting factor. I HATE having to reapply after a meal!

Oh really Melissa? I actually thought of signing up to be a distributor too but I don’t know too much about it to know if it actually sells well. I know what you mean about re-applying lipstick. It’s such a pain. So happy to hear you enjoyed the review. Means a lot coming from you girl 🙂

  6. hertraveltherapy says:

It sounds intense that you have to apply a few different steps to make it last, but I guess that’s how they keep it from wearing off. I like that the company follows ethical standards and doesn’t test on animals though, that’s a big tick for me.

    1. thesavvydreamer says:

Yes it takes a bit getting used to but I’m sure with time it will be a no brainer. And I totally agree about following ethical standards and not testing on animals. That’s so great.

I’ve never tried it and it’s actually the first time I hear about this product! i love long-lasting lipsticks in a liquid form! I just prefer matte shades instead of glossy, exactly because I want to avoid the sticky feeling. Let me know how it goes and I might give it a go myself!

    1. thesavvydreamer says:

Absolutely Nikki. I’m going to be wearing it from now on whenever I can and I will let you know if there’s a trick to getting it less sticky. My pet peeve as well 🙂

A small amount of colour can change the spunk and appearance of a person. It’s interesting to note the things a woman evaluates when she buys a lipstick.

    1. thesavvydreamer says:

Ha ha ha that’s so true. Yes, we women have our special likes and dislikes. Thanks for reading the post although not a subject of too much interest to you.

  12. megan beaver says:

Thanks for being honest. I have hardly heard anyone say that it can dry your lips out and frankly my lips are dry enough already.

    1. thesavvydreamer says:

No problem Megan. I think it might happen more if you use a lot of lip balm which I do. It has something to do with the wax in lip balms. I dunno exactly.
