Tasty Ground Meat Asian Dumplings With Soy Dipping Sauce

This is a simple recipe my boyfriend and I make for delicious home cooked dumplings. You can make the wonton wrappers from scratch or you can buy pre-packaged wrappers at an Asian store or market to save yourself some time. You are in full control of all the ingredients and you can ensure the sodium and spice level of your dish is to your dietary comfort zone. I opted for low-sodium soy sauce and sea salt, as I am very sensitive to refined salt and sugar. Grapeseed oil is known to have a high burning tolerance therefore I opted to use it in this recipe.

Ingredients for Dumplings:

  1. 1 Package of wonton wrappers
  2. 1 Lb ground meat (chicken, beef, veal or any combination thereof)
  3. 1 Green pepper finely chopped
  4. 1 Small onion finely chopped
  5. 1 Green onion finely chopped
  6. 1 Clove of garlic finely chopped or minced (or more to taste)
  7. 1 Full egg cracked and shells discarted
  8. 1 Teaspoon of salt & pepper to taste (or to your taste)
  9. 1 Teaspoon of cumin powder
  10. 1 Teaspoon of paprika
  11. ½ Cup of water for wontons
  12. 1 Cup of flour for dipping & frying dumplings
  13. 2 Tablespoons of grapeseed oil (or your favorite oil) for frying dumplings
  14. ½ Cup of water for cooking dumplings

Directions

Mix ingredients #2 – 10 in a bowl. Portion a spoonful of mix (about a heaping teaspoon) and place in the middle of the wonton wrapper.

Dumplings Folding Technique

Fold the wonton wrapper in half to seal the ingredients inside. See the below pictures for the exact technique. Can you keep a secret? My boyfriend is so much better at this so he’s the one who folds these little bundles of yumminess!!!

Repeat until you have used all the meat. Place the sealed dumplings on a plate sprinkled with some flour. Dip the dumplings on one side in the flour to cover them for easy and better frying.

Bring a frying pan with the grapeseed oil to a medium sizzle. Place the dumplings in batches in the frying pan and fry uncovered until golden/medium browned (about 7 minutes). Pour ½ cup of water into the frying pan to create a sizzle and cover with a lid. Let the dumplings cook for another 5 minutes. Remove the cooked dumplings into a bowl and cover with a plate to keep warm or place into a toaster oven on low heat. Repeat with remaining wontons until all of them are cooked.

Serve with stir-fried noodles and vegetables with the soy sauce dipping sauce.

I love making dumplings! My boyfriend and I get a little procession line going and it can take up to an hour, but it’s so satisfying! I love making pork wontons with hot and sour Thai soup.
